About METRO X
METRO X is a professional music practice app for iPhone and iPad. We build the precision metronome, digital tuner, PDF sheet music reader, and patent-pending multi-device sync technology that musicians use to practice, rehearse, and perform — all in a single free app.
What METRO X is
METRO X is the all-in-one music practice app for musicians of every level — students, teachers, chamber groups, orchestras, gigging bands, and worship and community ensembles. It replaces the four apps most musicians cobble together (a metronome, a tuner, a sheet music reader, and a way to keep an ensemble in sync) with a single, well-designed iOS and iPadOS app.
The brand name "METRO X" stands for the next-generation metronome — a metronome you can see, that lives on top of your sheet music, and that talks to every other device in the room. METRO X is published by the METRO X team and is available exclusively on the Apple App Store as a free download.
Our mission
For decades, the tools that helped professional orchestras stay in time — silent visual beat displays, wired click distribution systems, in-ear monitor mixes — have been out of reach for everyone else. They cost thousands, take a technician to set up, and only ever showed up in opera pits, scoring stages, and recording studios.
METRO X exists to put that same level of timing infrastructure in every musician's pocket, on the device they already own, for free. Practice better alone, rehearse better in groups, perform with the same timing tools the pros use.
Patent-pending technology
See your rhythm — the floating Orb
The METRO X floating Orb is a patent-pending visual beat indicator that sits directly on top of your sheet music. Your eyes never have to leave the score to find the beat — peripheral vision picks up every pulse without breaking your focus on the notes. It's the consumer-grade version of the silent visual beat boxes used in professional orchestra pits, and it goes one step further by living on the score itself instead of next to it.
Sync your ensemble — multi-device SYNC
METRO X SYNC is patent-pending technology that turns any iPhone or iPad in the room into a master clock. Every other device in the room locks to the same tempo, downbeat, and beat number with sub-millisecond alignment. No cables, no in-ear clicks, no audio engineer. The first consumer-grade solution to the ensemble drift problem.
What's inside METRO X
- BEAT — Professional Metronome. 50–600 BPM, complex time signatures, subdivisions, accent patterns, and tap tempo, with the patent-pending floating Orb visual beat.
- NOTE — Sheet Music Reader. Import any PDF, annotate with pencil and highlights, organize your library, and read with the floating Orb metronome on top of your score.
- SYNC — Multi-Device Ensemble Sync. Patent-pending real-time sync across every iPhone and iPad in the room. One device hosts, every other device follows.
- Digital Tuner. Real-time pitch detection with cent precision. Works for piano, violin, viola, cello, guitar, drums, brass, woodwinds, and orchestral instruments.
Who METRO X is for
- Students and beginners learning to read music, build a steady internal pulse, and practice with a clear visual beat that doesn't fight with the audio click.
- Music teachers running individual lessons, group classes, and ensembles where every student needs the same tempo reference.
- Chamber groups, jazz combos, and orchestras rehearsing without a conductor — SYNC keeps everyone locked together with no hardware.
- Gigging and working musicians who need a click on stage without a stage box, a sub-mix, or extra hardware.
- Worship leaders and community ensembles who want the same timing infrastructure as a pro orchestra without the budget.
